Price increases

Summary

GoTrack offers significantly more value now and we’re increasing the subscription price to fund our big plans for its future.

Improvements

Over the past five months, in response to your feedback, GoTrack has changed dramatically:

  • The entire app was redesigned and rewritten from the ground up, introducing:
    • An improved experience for managing routes and favourites.
    • A trip details screen with significantly more information on a select trip.
    • Display of platforms for all trips at once on the schedule view.
  • New data points were made available, including:
    • Stops that the trip will make and their times.
    • The stop that a train is currently at.
    • Whether the train is currently moving.
    • The location of all running trains on the map.
    • Whether the trip is expected to be eligible for a refund from GO Transit.
    • The number of cars on a train.
  • Two widgets were added that display times, platforms, delays, and cancellations on your home screen.
  • The map was redrawn with nearly 3,000 new coordinates so that displayed lines follow the exact rail lines.
  • Filters and station names were added to the notices tab.
  • A function was added to allow you to add a trip to your calendar.

For all of these reasons, we believe that GoTrack offers significantly more value today than it has at any point in the past.

Future plans

We also have big plans for what comes next. One of the features that we’re most excited about is automated refund support for delayed trips.

As we’ve teased before, we want to invest in a bespoke tracking experience that gives you push notifications for trains that you plan to take and helps to automate refunds for delayed trips that you’ve already taken. We believe that these features will not only save you time and money, but help transform GoTrack from a scheduling app into a fully-featured ecosystem for the GO Train.

Prices

We have never increased the price of the subscription since it was first introduced nearly three years ago. But on March 31, prices will increase for all subscription renewals to $4.99 per month or $39.99 per year. The new price will appear during your next renewal following that date and you should receive a reminder from Apple before any automatic charges take place.

The new price is still just a fraction of what most GO commuters spend on fares. A single trip from Union to Oakville still costs 60% more than a whole month of GoTrack. Yet, we believe that this price increase will allow us to build tremendous things and invest significantly in the future of this service.
